Dasara gift for poor merit students
Bright students struggling to continue their studies will have a special reason to celebrate Dasara this year, as chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has decided to reserve 10% of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to fund education of such students.

Yeddyurappa had recently made arrangements for a meritorious poor engineering student, Manjula, who worked as a housemaid, to continue her studies by providing free education for her.

Recalling the incident, he said, “My wish is to ensure that no bright student, with an urge to pursue higher education, should suffer due to financial or family problems. The CM’s Relief Fund would be utilised to help such students.”

About 5-10% of the fund would be reserved for the purpose. An official decision would be taken in this regard soon. Corporate houses would also be approached to make liberal contributions to the Fund to ensure that at least 1,000 poor meritorious students are benefited, Yeddyurappa announced.

A four-member committee comprising academicians Dr Siddalingaiah, Prof Doreswamy Naidu, Prof Narahari and Vinay Hegde would be constituted to examine requests for help and select beneficiaries.
