Cul-Ah! 2011 begins today in Mt Carmel

Mount Carmel College is hosting its cultural fest titled Cul-Ah! 2011. Thousands of students from more than 100 colleges will take part in the cultural extravaganza.

The event which will commence at 8.30 am on Tuesday, will go on till Thursday, packed with loads of fun and interaction with fellow students.

The three-day long fest will see five elements of nature— earth, fire, wind and water merging with one another, at the college ‘space’.

“Our college is completely eco-friendly, and hence we came up with this theme,” said Andrea D’Silva, general secretary of Mount Carmel College students’ union.

Music and dance competitions such as wind chimes, catapult, western electric, and agnipariksha will be held. The theme ‘Earth’ will be reflected in a fashion show that will sport rich, Indian ethnic wear.

The highlight of the event will be the performance of three bands: Beat Gurus, B Major, and Thermal and a Quarter. Also, the event will be covered in-house by journalism students, who will give out daily updates in the form of a daily newsletter.

At the curtain raiser on Monday, hundreds of excited students eagerly gathered to watch the official unveiling of the fest.

The fest has only been getting bigger and better each year. “We have sold 1,000 pieces of Cul-Ah! 2011 merchandise in about 30 minutes. We are all set for the day to roll out” said Meera, the college cultural secretary.
