Controversy mars Gujarat University's senate poll

This year too controversy reigned as the results of the Gujarat University senate election were declared on Tuesday. Students union ABVP claimed that it won the election 6-4, while NSUI maintained that the result was a draw at five seats each.

NSUI, student wing of Congress, won four seats of Gujarat University's senate (students' representative body) defending their performance of last year. While, ABVP also managed to secure four seats.

However, this year too controversy reigned with both parties making conflicting claims of the support of the two unanimously elected candidates.

The senate has 10 seats but election was conducted for only eight as candidates of the two remaining seats were declared winners unanimously. Apart from these two, there are two seats in arts in both under graduate (UG) and post graduate (PG), as with science and commerce while one each in law and education.

In the result, NSUI candidate Abhishek Shukla won UG arts seat, Ankit Barot UG science, Nisarg Patel-PG commerce and Vanraj Vyas-education. On the other hand, from ABVP Pankaj Mehra won PG arts seat, Vipul Patel PG science, Diljit Singh Rakad law and Gaurang Patel UG commerce.
