With a surge of festivals coming up, colleges are gearing up to welcome them with aplomb. Competition is fierce and students are giving their best to win accolades for their respective college. With Malhar and Umang just concluded, other festivals are queuing up too. Fests like Kaleidoscope, Kshitij, Mood-I and many others are biding their time. The excitement on campus is unimaginable with groups practicing wherever they can —including corridors and cafeteria!

DNA spoke to some college students and we present a low-down on what you could watch out for.
Kaleidoscope, popularly known as Kscope, of Sophia College starts from Nov 17 and will go on till Nov 22. The theme for this year is ‘My Kingdom Come’ where students can relive the nostalgia of fairytales and fables. The USP of their festival is ‘JAM, Dus ka Tees’ which they vouch is going to be a huge crowd puller. Apart from that, there’s ‘Electrocuted’, which is the band event and then there’s the most coveted event in the form of Mr and Ms Kaleidoscope. Tara Bhatnagar, head of Kaleidoscope ‘09, says, “In keeping with the swine flu epidemic, we have postponed the festival to November for the benefit of other colleges.”

Mood Indigo, popularly known as Mood-I of IIT, Mumbai starts from December 21 and will go on till December 24. The theme for this year’s most awaited festival is ‘Pirates’. The major crowd-puller is being touted as Porcupine Tree. Yes, it’s the same English band that won the Grammy Award Nominee (for 2007) and is now coming to India for the first time to perform at Mood-I to an enthusiastic audience.

Aditya Gandhi, media correspondent for Mood Indigo ’09, says, “In its 39th edition this year, Mood-I gets bigger and better than ever before. With the intense competition, fun-filled workshops, whacky informals and scintillating pro-shows, MI’09 promises to have something in store for everyone.”

Kshitij by Mithibai College starts on December 7 and will go on till December 11. ‘The Carnival’, this year’s festival theme illustrates their enthusiasm. Ketan Rambhia, chairperson of Kshitij ’09 explains why this theme is so close to the 200-odd students working for Kshitij. “The theme is an antithesis to last year’s grave mood. It has been a conscious effort to embrace the true spirit of the age-long tradition of organising college festivals. It’s a celebration and a declaration by all of us at Kshitij to let loose and immerse in the excitement of producing a phenomenon. We invite all others to join us in what we Kshitijites interpret as true revelry.”

The tentative turnout of students attending the fest is estimated to be over 11,000 students per day! Preeti Shenoy, vice-chairperson for Kshitij ’09, says, “My team and I promise that this festival is something that people have never experienced before and is to look forward to.”
