Beginning Saturday, B-school aspirants will work out their knowledge and speed as they tackle the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2011.
For the first time this year, students will be appearing for the test in a new format. The CAT 2011 will have only two sections, instead of three.
The first section will focus on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and the second on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time-limits.
The duration of the examination will be 140 minutes. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section. The aspirants will have an on-screen countdown timer.
Once the time ends for the first section, the candidates will move to the second part. Although new to the computer-based version of CAT, this format was in practice earlier.
CAT 2011 will be held till November 18. The results will be announced on January 11, 2012.
According to Prometric India, which conducts the test, till early this month, approximately 2.05 lakh candidates had registered for CAT 2011, marginally exceeding last year’s figure of 2.04 lakh registrations. Bangalore recorded the second highest number of registrations.
The US-based testing agency Prometric is conducting the online test, in collaboration with Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), for the third time this year.
For B-school aspirants, getting past the CAT means securing admission to the 13 IIMs or over 140 business schools across the country.
