The Common Admission Test (CAT)-2009 that is being held online for the first time this year will not to be scrapped, despite the computer glitches that have hampered its progress. There will, therefore, be no fresh test in the paper-pencil format.
This was announced by the CAT exam committee on Wednesday after its meeting in New Delhi with senior officials of the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry.
After the meeting, IIMA director Samir Barua told DNA over the phone that the IIM directors had reached a consensus that they should go on with the ongoing CAT-2009 and complete it. The computer-based test has drawn flak from many quarters as a few thousand students could not take the exam because of disruptions caused by computer viruses and technical glitches.
“We will try and address all the issues raised on various forums about the problems created by the online computer-based exam,” Barua said.
The examination committee plans to hold a test in January for the students who have been unable to take the exam because of glitches or had faced genuine problems.
