Having already extended the 10-day window period of the computerised CAT 2009 to 11 days, the organisers of the test on Monday announced yet another extension. The date for the new extension will be announced in about a fortnight. The CAT 2009 was originally planned to be conducted in 10 days. However, as many candidates failed to take the test due to various glitches in the test delivery system, the organisers of the test had extended it by one more day.

The organisers were still unable to identify all the candidates whose tests had to be rescheduled, so they have decided to extend the test by yet another day. New dates will be announced in about a fortnight, by which time the CAT organisers will have identified the candidates needing further rescheduling.

Referring to the candidates who failed to take a complete test because of technical glitches, IIMA director Samir Barua said, “They need not be anxious as we are going to make sure that they are able to take a complete test. We will announce the date in around a fortnight’s time after analysing the data log and identifying them.”

Apart from candidates whose tests have been affected due to virus attacks or server crashes, the candidates who had faced an incomplete test due to erroneous clicking of the end button will also be entitled for a retest. “Analyses of the data log will identity such candidates after which we are going to fix a date for their test. We will contact the candidates after identifying them,” Barua said.

He said he had no idea about the exact number of such candidates but said the numbers would not be big. However, the second extended test will not be conducted at all the centers.

“The centre where the tests will take place depends on the number of candidates who need rescheduling,” he said.

Talking about Prometric which had conducted the test, Barua said, “We are open to re-examining the test partner.”

“The first computerised CAT is worth a case study and we will be able to learn many things form this,” he said.
