BMM students can now study further

Hinduja is the first college to offer masters in the subject.

BMM students can now study further

Although there are over 56 city colleges offering the Bachelor in Mass Media (BMM) course, no college had a masters degree in the subject, except the Department of Communication & Journalism (MCJ) at the university. Some city institutes like Sophia Polytechnic and Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC) offer media or communication programmes but they are autonomous postgraduate diploma courses.

Now Hinduja College has introduced a Masters in Communication & Journalism course, affiliated to the Mumbai University. “BMM students did not have options at the postgraduate level,” said TA Shiware, principal, Hinduja College. “Last year, we put in an application to start this course and the permission came recently,” said Shiware.

“There’s a huge demand for our masters programme, which has an intake of 60. The applications we received this time were three times the number of seats available,” said Mangesh Karandikar, head of the University’s MCJ department.

Students will be admitted after a written test and interview. “The syllabus will be the same as followed by the university department. We can enroll 60 students,” said Shiware.
