Apart from traditional budgetary allocations in the state education sector, the Gujarat government has allocated more than Rs412 crore under the new planned initiatives in the state budget for the financial year 2009-10. Not only will Ahmedabad get new government English-medium commerce college at Naroda in Kubernagar area, the staff and infrastructural crisis at government commerce and arts college in Maninagar will also be resolved this financial year.
As per the new plans, the government will be focusing on various initiatives in infrastructural development and capacity building of manpower in the education sector. These initiatives will also include promising jobs in the primary and secondary schools and colleges. Also, better facilities will be provided to existing staff in primary and secondary schools.
Some 600 new appointments of ‘Vidhya Sahayak’ teachers will be made in primary schools. Also, Rs81 crore will be expended for construction of staff quarters for primary school teachers and for refurbishing existing primary schools’ classrooms, compound wall and infrastructure facilities, among other things.
Teachers of new secondary and higher secondary schools will get residential facilities. The state government will open 40 additional classes in all the existing government secondary schools and 600 classes in non-government secondary schools for accommodating more students. Besides, nearly 200 additional classes will be constructed in non governmental HS schools.
The state will also spend a significant amount on training teachers, college principals and lecturers. A total of Rs3.05 crore has been allotted for Yoga training of students and teachers. Moreover, new activities like sea scouting will be introduced in the schools at a cost of Rs1 crore. College principals and lecturers will be given training through Ignou.
