At IIMA, domestic salaries of PGPX grads shoot up by 30%

The students of IIM-A’s post-graduate programme for executives (PGPX), 2009-10 batch, are celebrating, because a significant majority of the batch’s 80 students have already found jobs in senior managerial positions. Even those who are not yet placed are confident that they will get a good job by the time placements are over.

Sources at the institute said that the average domestic salary package offered to PGPX students this year has risen by nearly 30%, bringing it closes to the average salaries offered before the recession.  A student of the batch said that the placements situation for PGPX students this year was very positive. “Salaries offered this year are nearly 30% higher than those offered last year,” he said. “This, however, is not the final figure as some students of the batch are yet to be placed.”

Despite the improved job situation, placements for the 2009-10 PGPX batch have got delayed and are still going on. Explaining the delay, another student said that many students had specific choices regarding location of job, post and the offered salary.
“With an average work experience of around 10 years, the PGPX students understandably have certain expectations,” the student said. “Hence, some of them are considering more offers than one.”

A student of the batch, Manoj Khare, who is also part of the placements committee, said the jobs offered this year were definitely better than those of last year. “The process is not formally over yet,” Khare said. “But we already have students placed in senior managerial positions.” Big companies such as McKinsey, IBM, TCS, Wipro and others have offered senior positions to students of the current batch. Several students have been recruited for senior roles such as senior vice-president, VP, CEO and so on for various mid-sized companies this year.

The PGPX placement process is called ‘rolling placement’ as the duration of the whole process is open ended, and can go on for months. Placement of the students this year is still going on, though it started at the end of December 2009.
