Chief minister Ashok Chavan asked the school education department to consider the ‘best five’ option to standardise admissions for Std XI from the next academic year.
The ‘best five’ option involves taking into account only the top five subject scores of a student to decide his/her percentage at the
Secondary School Certificate examination.
Chavan reviewed the functioning of the education department and
its plan for junior college admissions at his residence on Wednesday.
He told officials of the department to prepare “well in advance” to avoid last-minute problems. He said the process of standardising admissions should be thought through and justified to students from all boards.
The chief minister also told the department to update the curriculum in schools to keep up with thetimes. “The results of BMC schools need to improve,” he said, and promised them adequate infrastructure.
