5-day carnival in Ahmedabad to mark National Science Day

Preparation of National Science Day celebrations is at its peak at Science City. Gujarat Science City (GSC) and Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) are organising five-day Science Carnival 2012 to celebrate the National Science Day. The carnival will start from Tuesday and will continue till March 3. With the theme of 'Sparking Young Minds with Science', the carnival will provide exposure to visitors.

The National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 every year to honour Nobel Laureate Sir CV Raman.

The event will be inaugurated by Ravi Saxena, IAS, additional chief secretary, department of science and technology, government of Gujarat, at 4 pm on Tuesday.

The carnival will have participation of students from different schools and colleges. There will also be a series of programs including youth engagement in science, competitions like quiz, drawing and puzzle. Workshops will be conducted and science demonstrations will be presented on various subjects.

Scientists from various institutions will deliver lectures on different subjects as well as conduct workshops. Films like 'Preserving Biodiversity', 'What are the stars' and 'Building of the Earth' will be screened at Science City. Interesting cultural presentations and science observations will also be the part of the events. Other guest speakers will be Dr RR Navalgund, director, SAC-ISRO and Prof JN Goswami, director, PRL.

Youth Parliament will be organised at the amphitheatre on Tuesday as a part of the Year of Youth Power. About 150 students of the state will act as the members of Parliament. The theme will be "Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety".

As part of the Science city carnival and to spread awareness among citizens about vehicular pollution, around 150 students of Thaltej Government Primary School will walk from their school to Science city in the morning.
