The wait of applicants who made the cut at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) ended on Monday when the institution announced the list of candidates shortlisted to attend the admission procedure.

The list found 1,549 candidates making it to the next round to compete for seats to the premier B-school. As was the case last year, the official website www.iimb.ernet.in was slow to access, and for most part of Monday it was unavailable due to the expected rush of applicants checking if they made it to the list. “The admission process for the PGP (post graduate programme) will start from March 18 on campus,” Prof Subhashish Gupta, admissions in-charge, IIM-B, said.

The application form is available on the website, and has to be filled and submitted by March 12. IIM-B had decided to scrap the group discussion round from this year — a practice that was an integral component of the admission procedure.

Instead, shortlisted candidates will now be required to clear an interview and write a short essay which will determine their selection for the B-school.

IIM aspirants can look forward to more seats at IIM-B this year. The B-school has decided to increase the seats for the flagship PGP course from 350 in 2009 to 375 this year.

Apart from IIM-B, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Calcutta, IIM-Lucknow, IIM-Kozhikode and IIM-Shillong also announced their shortlisted of candidates. However, the results from IIM-Indore and the newly established IIM-Ranchi are yet to be announced.

Candidates are short-listed based on their scores in the recent common admission test (CAT) conducted jointly by the eight IIMs and Prometric, a subsidiary of the US-based testing company, Educational Testing Service (ETS).

In order to clarify doubts regarding the development and scoring pattern in the CAT, Prometric has posted a detailed clarification on its website,www.prometric.com/IIM-CAT/ CAT_DEV.htm
