Yash Bhalghat of M Prakash classes who scored 335 was the city topper in the IIT-JEE examination 2013.

Son of a doctor couple practicing in Rahuri taluka of Ahmednagar, Yash is currently attending a workshop in astronomy at Homi Bhabha Science Centre, Mumbai.

His father Dr Sanjay Bhalghat said, “We were expecting that he would score good marks, but are happy to know that he has topped in the city. Concentration, focus and hard-work are the keys to his success.”

Yash is a ‘Tabla Visharad’ and has successfully completed six levels in London School of Music. “He wants to be recognised as a scientist one day. He loves Physics and wants to pursue a career in it,” said the proud father.

Prafulla Dhariwal, who scored 320, is representing India in the International Physics Olympiad. “I was expecting good scores. Now, I have concentrated on JEE advance as it would be more interesting,” said Prafulla, who has also been selected at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Shantanu Nagras of IITians Prashikshan Kendra, who hails from Solapur and has scored 222, said, “There is no awareness about this examination in my city. But after giving this examination my perspective towards study and examination has changed.”

Sushrut Thakar of IITians Prashikshan said, “The examination was tough and it checked our skills on parallel thinking.”

How they fared

M Prakash classes: 8 students of the 110 students scored over 300 marks.

Bakliwal Tutorials
: 4 students scored over 300 marks; 200 qualify for advanced.

DG Foundation
: 16 of the 50 students qualified the exam.

IITian’s Prashikshan Kendra
: 135 qualified the examination.
