Since the implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) act in Indore in 2010, the state school education department has failed to reimburse amount to private schools against the tutorial fee cost incurred on students from economically weaker sections admitted through privileged selection.
Over 21,000 students have been admitted to city schools under the RTE act in the last three years.
"Our school is yet to receive the reimbursement amount for the last three years and as per my knowledge, the condition is similar in other private schools too," said Indore Sahodaya chairperson Prakash Chaudhary.
The school department as per the provision of the RTE act has to reimburse Rs 3065 per child to private schools annually for all children admitted under the act.
"The reimbursement for last year 2012-13 is pending with the department," said ILVA School Principal Sanjay Mishra. This is the fourth year of implementation of the RTE act in Madhya Pradesh.
Sources claimed that approximately Rs 2 crore reimbursements are yet to be made to private schools for the last session.
School officials said that the process of reimbursement has been initiated and will be completed shortly.
The cost of tutorial fee reimbursement per child as has been increased from Rs 2,600 to Rs 3,605 this year, sources claimed.
There are 18,000 seats in private schools of Indore reserved under RTE of which around 7,000 seats were filled in the first three rounds held in February, May and July respectively.
More than 11,000 seats still vacant under the RTE act in the urban and rural schools of Indore district.
Around 8,000 children in Indore were admitted in private schools under RTE act last year in 2012.
