The postponement the All India Institute of Local Self Government's final year examination of the post-graduate diploma in food technology by six months has irked the students.
They have missed a good opportunity to get job due to the postponement of the final examination. The course is for 18 months and it is almost two years now, but still the final year exam has not been held.
Last week, 15 students along with their parents approached AIILSG director AN Shetty to know when the institute will conduct their final exam.
To this the students got reply that their timetable will come with two days. The course started in June 2012 and was supposed to end with the finish the final examination in January 2014. Bhavin Shah (name changed), a student, said, "I gave interviews in four companies for a job in the hope that my certificate will be issued in time. But, since the final exam was postponed I could not produce the certificate. I lost the job opportunity, because of that."
Another student Sapna Menon (name changed), said, "I am not able to look for job because of the exam can be held anytime after six months. I also cannot look for a foreign job in the absence of the certificate."
Echoing the sentiments of Menon, another student said, "I know how I have managed the fees and done this course. I thought soon after the course I will start earning. But the postponement of the exam have deprived me from taking jobs. My financial condition is also not that good. We were initially given reason of election for the postponement and later some other reason was given. Why should we suffer when we have paid all the course fees."
AN Shetty, director of the AIISG, said: "It is true that Saurashtra University in Rajkot (to which the institute is affiliated) had initially notified the exam to commence on June 5. It is also true that subsequently the university postponed the examination due to some administrative reasons and issued the revised notification to commence the examination from 12.06.14. All the students had a meeting in our office and they were informed of the above position."
