Dyslexia is a condition that affects a person's ability to process text, which, in turn, affects their ability to read fluently and comprehend accurately. Although its symptoms may vary from person to person, a few common ones are trouble remembering and learning printed words, problems comprehending, making spelling errors repeatedly, etc.

More often than not, this learning disability is usually associated with the perception that such persons cannot succeed in life. However, there are several well-known people who did not let the disorder hold them back. Instead, they overcame it and went on to make a name for themselves in their respective fields. Here are some such personalities:

Actors and filmmakers:

Right from the movie script, which helps them decide on whether to take on a project or not, to their dialogue sheets, actors invariably need to do a lot of reading. Although one might think someone dyslexic may not be able to take on the profession, actors like Orlando Bloom, Tom Cruise, Patrick Dempsey, Keira Knightley and Keanu Reeves, and filmmaker Steven Spielberg are among many others who proved this theory wrong.

While Orlando Bloom had been lucky enough to be diagnosed with the learning disability at the age of seven, Patrick Dempsey continues to struggle with reading. "You have to keep working," he had told People magazine.

It was a surely a lot of work for these stars, but they surely made it big in the field.

TV biggies:

American journalist Anderson Cooper shot to fame as the prime anchor for CNN. But little did the world know that the TV personality suffered from dyslexia as a child.

Similarly, star of The Tonight Show, Jay Leno is dyslexic as well. But such his optimism is such that instead of letting the disorder bring him down, he worked hard to get to where he is now, and also attributes his success to the disorder.

Others:

Musicians Ozzy Osbourne and John Lenon, artists Pablo Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci, geniuses Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein, CEO of Cisco Systems John T Chambers, fashion biggie Tommy Hilfiger, socio-environmental activist Erin Brockovich and boxer Muhammad Ali are among many other famous personalities  who struggled with dyslexia.

Although it can never be too late to overcome the disorder as an adult, dyslexia can be treated more effectively when diagnosed at an early age.

Feeling 'stupid' is common among those with the learning disability. To overcome feeling this disheartened, dyslexics should take inspiration from these celebrities and try and do the best that they can. Even though reaching their level of success may not be a possibility for all, their drive to succeed in life should be something that must be made an example of.
