After being pushed into the corner by revelation of the scams and malpractices in the state conducted by the state board, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to do away with the Pre-Engineering Test and replace it with JEE (Main). At least for now.

MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), the board that conducts the PET for admissions into engineering colleges in the state, has found its reputation in tatters after highly-placed officials were found involved in scams for different competitive exams including the medical entrance test and other recruitment exams.

PET:

The decision to replace the engineering test comes after the government had already been decided that admissions into medical colleges in the state would be decided on the basis of scores in the NEET exam which is conducted by the CBSE.

What students need to know:

Students in the state will have to attempt the upcoming JEE (Main) 2014 for admissions into engineering colleges in the state for the academic year 2014, registrations for which are already open.

Similarly, students vying for admissions into medical colleges will have to write NEET.

Temporary:

Officials said the that this would only be applicable for the upcoming academic year and that they are playing a waiting game to see how it goes this year and only after that would a decision regarding making the exam a regular feature in the state would be undertaken.

MP is the fourth state after Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha to adopt the national-level JEE (Main) 2014.
