It seems managing courts in the state is very hard for management graduates.

It is evident from the fact that less than five per cent MBAs were able to pass the screening test held by the recruitment cell of the Gujarat high court a month back for the post of court manager.

Surprisingly, the number of candidates who passed is less than the vacancy of 27 candidates. Now, the high court might start a fresh process to appoint court managers.

The recruitment department had issued an advertisement to recruit 27 court managers.

But only 26 candidates got the required 55 per cent marks thereby making them eligible for the interview.

“We had issued advertisements but failed to get ample number of candidates for the newly introduced post as proposed by the 13th Finance Commission to ease the burden of the court in the state,” said sources connected with the recruitment process.

They said of the 630 candidates eligible to appear for the screening test, 559 took the exam and only 26 made the cut for the interview.

“We may have to issue advertisements the second time if we do not get suitable candidates during the oral interview,” a source said.

Usually, for any recruitment process either in the judiciary or any other government department, the number of candidates called for interview is three times the actual requirement.

Following the interview, the authorities choose competent and suitable candidates for the post. But it does not happen regarding the recruitment of court manager possibly due to a tough paper or any other reason.

The new post of court manager was created under the proposal of the 13th Finance Commission to streamline court administration and make the functioning of a court more efficient.

Education qualifications for court manager are an MBA with a minimum of 55 per cent marks apart from other academic requirements. The post is based on a one-year contract with a hefty pay of Rs12 lakh per annum for a senior court manager and Rs8 lakh for a junior manager in the high court.

The authorities have created a pay package of Rs7 lakh per annum in 25 district courts. They will get 10 per cent incentive for their service one year onwards.
