Make snowman with a difference in Kashmir, pocket Rs 1 lakh

Make an arty snowman and walk away with Rs one lakh. For the first time, the education department of Jammu and Kashmir has announced a snow art competition to stimulate the creative genius of the students in the restive Valley. After prolonged dry spell, Kashmir valley witnessed massive snowfall last week.

Students intending to participate in the competition need to make snowman, snow sculpture or other form of snow art. They will have to click three good photos, from different angles and mail it to the education department.

"We want to see the creative side of the students. There are many students who are extremely good at making things out of snow, which is available in abundance. So we want to encourage the students," said Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, director of School Education Department, Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a slew of awards for the winners of the unique competition to celebrate the creativity of the students and capture the festivity of this season's first major snowfall in the Valley.

The state level winner will be given Rs one lakh cash award and a citation. There will be separate prizes for the winners at different levels of the competition.

Education department has created a separate email ID for the students intending to submit their entries online. Students can also drop the pictures and video footage at the offices of the Cultural Coordinators of the respective Chief Education Officers.

Two categories of students in the age group of 15 to 17 years and 18 to 25 years will be eligible to participate in the competition."All snow art works created after January 6, the day of first major snowfall of this season, shall be eligible for the contest. The competition shall be at different levels in the winter zone of the state including higher secondary level, district level and finally at the state level, with prizes to be awarded to the winners at each of these stages," said a spokesman of School Education department.

Each entry should be complete in all respects and mention name, residential address, contact number and most importantly theme of the art submitted for the competition. "The entries will be judged on the basis of the concept, design, creativity, originality, social message etc," he said

Mehbooba Mufti-led government is planning to hold a grand exhibition of the photographs and snow art at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center Srinagar in March to showcase the creative genius of the students.
