The state government has decided to provide coaching to as many as 50 girl students from economically backward families from across the state to appear for competitive entrance examinations such as the JEE and AIEEE.

The coaching will be carried out by the state women and child development department, with the help of a reputed private coaching group in the city. The state government will select from among students who have cleared the class 10 exam and whose parents earn less than Rs1 lakh per year.

An entrance test will be conducted for these students. The test will check the skills of the students in subjects such as maths and science (from the syllabus of class 8 to class 10, with most weightage given to class 10 portion).

Once they crack this test, the selected students will be admitted to the coaching institution and junior college, where they will also pursue their pre-degree courses and undergo coaching for the IIT and other engineering college entrance exams.

The government will spend around Rs47,50,000 on these students every year.
