Hour Of Code aspires to create digital India

Code.org an NGO from the US with support from Facebook, Microsoft, Infosys and many others has come up with one of the largest learning events in history ‘The Hour of Code’.

Vidyanidhi Info Tech Academy (VITA) at Vile Parle, Mumbai hosted the ‘Hour Of Code’ event during the computer science education week in December for students of their school, and also for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Gandhigram school, in their neighbourhood. VITA has opened their computer labs free to all secondary school students till January 7 to introduce them to computer science.

Code.org an NGO from the US with support from Facebook, Microsoft, Infosys and many others has come up with one of the largest learning events in history ‘The Hour of Code’. It is a global movement reaching over 100 million students in over 180 countries. The Hour of Code gives a one-hour introduction to computer science in various languages including Hindi. It gives students their first taste of coding. Students and even parents and teachers can attempt the Hour of Code by visiting https://code.org.

Savita Thakur, Director (VITA), said, “Once the interest is triggered, students can move beyond the Hour of Code, they can use free, quality online resources. They can create interactive games with scratch programming and develop websites by learning basics of JavaScript. Such initiatives will ensure that our students are on the forefront of creating technology.”
