Gone are the days when colleges had to struggle to find sponsors for the events in campus. The tables have turned; today the colleges are in a position to choose their sponsors.

Despite the recession many MNCs and other business groups are ready to fund these events. Many international brands like Wipro, Bajaj and Vodafone, which target generation next, come forward to sponsor the fests. However, the college managements have given many guidelines to the students regarding the selection of sponsors.
They are asked to avoid soft drinks brands like Coke and Pepsi, and tobacco brands.

The charge for setting up a stall inside the college may vary from Rs5,000 to Rs8,000. The inputs given by the students can be used as a good database about the target group.

The budget of inter-collegiate fests in the city varies from Rs4-5 lakh for an event. Students claim that some of the biggest fests in South India are held in namma Bengaluru. "The stage decoration and the lighting will cost us a lot. The certificates, medals and drum kits are also expensive. A three-day fest can cost around Rs4  lakh. That is one of the reasons, why we go for sponsorship. For sports fest, some brands like Red Bull (energy drink) distribute free samples to students. Many students come due to these,” says Shalini Priyanka, cultural secretary, Jyothi Nivas College.

Bushra, event manager of Live Gig, says, "Many brands are ready to spend for the events as it provides a stage to communicate with the target audience. The youngsters have the persuasive power; they can motivate their parents to buy a specific brand. It is different from watching an advertisement."

However, one cannot find two different brands of same product in an event. The colleges make it a point to avoid competitors.
