If you are among the students who got their CET results on Tuesday, here is a mobile application that will give you a rough idea of the colleges that you can apply for, based on your ranking. Developed by Ipomo, a technology company, the app has gathered all the information about the last year’s cut off ranks from the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) and has made a rough list of probable cut off marks this year.

“You can download the app called the CET 2013 by sending an SMS with the text – IPOMO to the number 7259002341. You will get a download link which will install the application for free on your phone, be it Android, Blackberry or even Symbian phones,” says Hari Prakash, co-founder and managing director of Ipomo.

Once installed, students can access the campus finder link which helps them filter colleges based on their ranks and personal preferences.

“It’s a simple filtering mechanism wherein you have to enter the city or town within Karnataka you want to study in and then you have to input which category you belong to, as in whether you fall under general merit category or something else,” explains Prakash, adding that students should also compute in their ranks.

The lists are differently computed for engineering and medical colleges and students should also enter the specific streams they want to study under.

“Students should also select whether or not they want to do mechanical engineering or computer science or something else and the cut offs will obviously vary accordingly,” he offers.

“The data is available on the KEA website as well. But it’s raw and huge and therefore becomes very difficult to figure out if you will make the cut. Through this app, you get a list immediately,” he says.

This app, however, will only be able to provide an idea of what students and parents can expect. It can’t be used as an alternative to counseling.

Next up – JEE
For students who have taken up the JEE examinations this year, starting June, the company will offer the campus finder option at a more nationalised level.

“We are still collating data because unlike the CET data, which is readily available, we have to source it from various partners. From June 1, we are hoping to offer students the option for their JEE ranks as well and see which colleges they are likely to be eligible for based on the previous year’s cut offs,” offers Prakash.
