Better October HSC and SSC results; girls outshine boys

The results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations held in September-October were declared on Tuesday by the state board on its website. Both HSC and SSC results have improved from last year. As opposed to 14.61% students passing last year, 17.85% students passed SSC examinations in 2013; and 21.75% students passed in 2013 in HSC, a few notches higher than last year’s 19.03%.

As far as SSC examinations go, the Nashik division fared better — 29.48% students cleared the examination, followed by Pune, where 20.60% students passed. Mumbai division is among the lowest, as only 11.71% students passed. Konkan division recorded the lowest pass percentage with 11.45%.

About 2,15,935 students had registered for the examination, out of which 2,14,469 students appeared for the examination across 1,015 examination centres in the state. From the Mumbai division, around 42,500 students appeared for the examination of which 4,978 succeeded in clearing it. Maximum number of students appearing for the exam were from the Mumbai division.

As for the HSC examinations, 1,80,937 students registered for it, of which 1,68,422 appeared for the exam and 36,638 candidates cleared it with a pass percentage of 21.75%. Mumbai division recorded a pass percentage of 17.25%. Aurangabad division topped in the HSC examination with a passing percentage of 34.82%. In HSC also, most students appeared from Mumbai division.

Girls performed better than boys in HSC examination — 25.67% girls passed the exam, while 19.76% boys passed. Aurangabad recorded the highest number of girls passing - 41.02%. In Mumbai division, 19.94% girls and 15.66% boys passed the examination.

In HSC, maximum passing students were from the MCVC stream - 38.71%, followed by the science stream — 30.94%. While in SSC examination, 13.02% girls and 10.95% boys passed.
“Students can collect their marksheets from their respective colleges on November 29 after 11am,” said Laxmikant Pandey, chairman, Mumbai Division of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education” According to him, results can also be checked on the websites — http://mahresult.nic.in and www.msbshse.ac.in, wherein students will get the subject-wise break-up of marks.

Nearly 2.16 lakh students appeared for the secondary school certificate examination and 1.81 lakh appeared for the higher secondary certificate repeaters’ examination held from September 25 to October 17.

“Students who wish to apply for revaluation can submit the application form with the prescribed fee after they get their marksheets from their respective schools. A photocopy of the original marksheet must be attached to the application and submitted to the respective schools/colleges by December 9. If students attach the online version of the marksheet, the application will be rejected,” a board official said.
