Admissions in Delhi University pick up after fourth cut-off

Many colleges saw a good number of students wanting to take admission in Economics and Commerce on the first day of admission after the fourth cut-off list. "In the new list Commerce course saw a very good response.

With the deadline for admissions to Delhi University approaching its end, hundreds of students turned up at various colleges on Monday to take admissions under the fouth cut-off list which was announced by the varsity on Sunday.

The fourth list has turned out to be a boon for many students, as famous courses like Economics, Commerce and English are still open for admissions at various colleges. "I thought I won't be able to get admission in Commerce at any of the famous colleges but in the fourth list I am able to get into some of them," said Pankaj, a student from Bhopal.

Many colleges saw a good number of students wanting to take admission in Economics and Commerce on the first day of admission after the fourth cut-off list. "In the new list Commerce course saw a very good response. One reason can be that we reopened the course after closing it in third cut-off list," said an official from Gargi College. As many as one hundred twenty three candidates applied for the Commerce out of which fifty-five have been given admission on Monday.

At Kirori Mal College, 32 students took admission in Commerce and nine took admission in English. "Chances are that Commerce, Physics and Botany will be closed for fifth cut-off," said S P Gupta, Principal KMC.

Some colleges said that the number of admissions on the first day of fourth cut-off list was much higher than what it was on the first day of admissions after previous list. "In comparision to the first day after third list, we registered a hike of around 78% in admissions for English on the first day after fourth list," said Savita Dutta, Principal Maitreyi College.

At many colleges the admissions for General category was almost over but seats under reserved categories were still open for admissions. "We still have seats in many courses under the reserved categories like OBC, SC/ST and Person with Disability (PwD). However, admissions in the General category is over," said V K Kawatra, Principal Hansraj College. Over hundred students have taken admission in Hansraj College on Monday.
