First person BFor the last four years I have been a PhD scholar (NeuroChemistry) at NIMHANS. Currently, I am awaiting mythesis result. My area of research is—developing the theraputicalgorithm for the patient suffering from Cerebral VenousThrombosis—popularly known as brain clot. Before joining NIMHANS Iworked as a research scientist with the Institute of Bioinformatics(IOB) for two years. Over here, I learnt the computational aspects ofanalysing biological data collected for reasearch.
Thanks to myclass XI Science teacher, who made learning fun, I decided to make acareer in Genetics. Though my parents wanted me to become a doctor, I was firmly focusedon becoming a research scientist.
StudyingBiotechnology was quite benefcial. It helped me to combine my knowledge of Geneticswith technological aspects of life sciences. Being in the researchfield demands hardwork. A PhD scholar mustnot take more than five years to get their degree. If you want tocontinue in the research field, then you must be a patient person. Asthis will help to cope with failed experiments. One must also read research papers in thefield to keep up with the work in the field. It is essential to stayfocused on your area of study. As scientists we deal with livingorganisms like mice or handle human tissue samples which need to bestored carefully and not lost or damaged. One needs to wisely choosea lab and guide. Go for the ones who are masters in your chosen areaof research and where you are confidentthat genuine work is taking place.
Though there area number of research companies that employ research scientistsand scholars, I intend to do my post doctoral research abroad.A deep scientific study is my passion and I want to keep it alive.
