10K teaching posts vacant in KV schools

In 2014, 4,296 teaching posts were vacant across several KVs in India. In 2015, the number was 2019; the total number of vacant posts by 2017 is 10,285, the central government said in answer to a question in the Parliament on Thursday.

Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) schools, which are run by the Central Government under the Human Resource Development Ministry are facing a major shortage of teaching faculty for the last many years. In fact, majority of the teachers are on contractual basis. The dearth of teacher seems to continue for the last few years

In 2014, 4,296 teaching posts were vacant across several KVs in India. In 2015, the number was 2019; the total number of vacant posts by 2017 is 10,285, the central government said in answer to a question in the Parliament on Thursday. 

“Filling up of vacancies is a continuous process. However, while the process for regular recruitment is undertaken from time to time, in the interim, with a view to ensuring that the academic interests of the students are not adversely affected, contractual teachers are engaged, as per requirement,” said Mahendra Nath Pandey, MoS HRD .

The written tests for the post of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), Librarian, Primary Teacher and non-teaching posts were also conducted. However, after a question paper leak, some of the recruitment had to be cancelled.

Subsequently, an advertisement for filling up 6,205 vacancies of teaching posts to be filled up through direct recruitment had been published by KVs. The remaining 3,994 vacancies are to be filled up.
